Free Culture Swarthmore summer conference call #1

Attendance: Nelson Pavlosky '06, Ben Blonder '08, Anthony Manfredi '07, Alex Benn '08

Ben and Nelson will work on improving the attendance for next meeting.

Alex and Ben are going to work on the website together.

Long-term planning is a priority; Alex and Nelson are going to focus on this.

We should have a speaker each semester, according to the long term plan. Who will our speaker be in the fall?

Anthony is interested in open access, and Nelson will put him on the mailing list.

The focus for the Fall will be on Swarthmore, perhaps Trico in the Spring.

There was discussion of whether an IRC or IM chat would be better than a confrence call. IRC was vetoed.

Conference calls cost money, sometimes hard to hear.
IM chats leave a log of the meeting; easier to take minutes and review what has just been said.
Worries that IM meetings might be less productive and people would get sidetracked.
Cellphones are mobile, people can make phone calls from places where they do not have internet access, such as while riding in the car.

Next "conference call" will be in an IM chatroom at 10pm next Sunday.

Whoever thinks to start a room first will invite others.

The secretary for the meeting should be decided at the beginning of the meeting rather than the end :-p.
