Agenda
I'd like to start off meetings with a few video clips, so that we don't spend the first 10-15 minutes just waiting for people to arrive. Rob wanted to show his latest video he made, and I want to show this clip about trusted computing that I pulled off of BoingBoing the other day.
- Propping meetings - Can we please appoint someone to make sure our meetings are in the Daily Gazette list of events each week? And make sure a reminder e-mail goes out to our own mailing list each week?
- Discovery Weekend - Does Rob have anything to report? My understanding is that we are doing a LAN party in Sci 199 on Saturday evening.
- Jimbo Wales - Do we want him to speak next semester? He won't be cheap, he said that Haverford paid him $3000 last year, but if we start looking for money now we should be able to get it together.
- Library exhibit - The librarians seem to think that, while we can have a permanent bookshelf, they'd prefer to have a temporary exhibit for the normal library books, so that they can go back in their normal places in the stacks afterwards and people can find them. At any rate, they said they could give us the space for a little over a month, starting Oct 29. Let's get moving on this.
- James Michener - I talked to Maurice Eldridge and he seemed responsive... I need to follow up with an e-mail, which someone has to help me write.
- Media Server project - We need to figure out what software has to be installed, so SCCS can help us install it. Someone needs to help me contact Ourmedia.org / Archive.org to see what software they use.
- NOTLD study break - Movies are fun, public domain zombie movies are more fun! When/where is it, do we have money for food?
- Pirate Party - Arrr.
- Dinner meetings - Am I the only person who has a problem with the dinner meeting being the day immediately after our business meeting? We can't prop both at once. I guess it's ok because really we're going to prop the dinner meetings and not our business meetings, but it was awkward the week of Matt Asay's talk when we were trying to prop both at once, for instance.
- Blog / Livejournal - Should we switch back to using Livejournal? Does anyone actually read our blog currently? Would you read the LJ community? LJ has the advantage of not requiring maintenance, and it seems to filter comment spam much better than our Wordpress setup does :-P But it's less cool than hosting the blog on our own server. It just seems like there are more important things we could do with our time than playing with the Wordpress install.

- So we need money
- FFS
- departments - which one?
- president's office
- What does he talk about? - need to figure out who cares
- Nelson will talk to Miles about this
Library bookshelf
- While librarians wouldn't mind a bookshelf, they would prefer a temp. exhibit
- lots of books are well-circulated and shouldn't be moved from stacks
- list it anyway
- we should have some literature etc. on a shelf
- lots of books are well-circulated and shouldn't be moved from stacks
- everyone should come up with a book for the shelf
- Lauren will work with Nelson on the shelf
James Michener
- Nelson has talked to Maurice Eldridge
- we should release one at a time
- it's likely sales will decline as it becomes irrelevant
- good idea to CC it
- we need a proposal
- Eric A. will help work on this (and theoretically Rebecca)
Media server
- SCCS likes the idea
- just did a server refresh so they have almost no money for a new computer
- we need to talk to SCCS and SBC for money
- ourmedia.org (when it works) is a good basis to go from

- Need to reserve space
- Eric L. will continue working on this
- Tues. 25th, 8:00 PM

- he said he'd get back to us
- he was in the ER
- should be done mid-November
- Luke, Eric L. and Lauren are in charge of this
Dinner meeting times
- Wednesday is very close to Tuesday meetings
- tough to prop
- but we'll keep it anyway - not many collisions
- we need to prop it obsessively
- lots of signs
- is top of Sharples good?
- need to pull people up there
- seen by people as they come in
- we'll keep it
Website / Blog
- Wordpress is sort of crappy
- should we move to LiveJournal?
- need to get everyone on it or aware of it
- Ben and Miles (and theoretically Erek) are working on this
OpenAccess
- Meeting: Nelson and Rebecca went
- Idea: faculty luncheon
- Tri-college
- host a panel
- there are at least five people at Bryn Mawr who are very knowledgeable about this
- one started a journal
- Tim Burke
- library staff - science library
- may not happen for a little while if we need to wait for Bryn Mawr people
- Let's set a date
- need to make sure there isn't a faculty luncheon
- need a date to make sure faculty feel like they aren't wasting their time
- base the date on when Tim Burke is free
Notes
- Add Miles to the mailing list
- make sure everyone is on core and general mailing lists
